Log # 06

Some times I spiral and go down to the depths of internet on YouTube and randomly come across things that now I want as a new hobby. This weekend as my uterus made me just lie down in blankets and do nothing, I took the opportunity to scour YouTube and find something new or something old that I loved but may have forgotten about. There I found the videos on making your own pocket notebooks. Notebooks are my first love. All of stationary items in fact. Buy me a nice pen and you are my favourite instantly. It can be that easy to make me happy. Since 2019 when YouTube made me click on Peter McKinnon’s video, ever since I also wanted a Field Notes pocket notebook. It’s just a notebook, but I wanted it so bad. In all honestly, for a notebook that small it does come with a little higher price tag. But I had been influenced and I will not settle unless I had it now.

I have learned video editing from Peter’s videos. I always loved his way of cinematography, B-Rolls, A-Rolls blah blah, everything. Learned it, used it, worked on personal projects, worked on other’s projects and made some moneys, enjoyed it and still do. Another very important thing I learned from him was to carry a small pocket notebook on me. I have at least 20 notebooks and journals sitting in my bookshelf right now which were bought but never used. I am somewhat of a collector too. Why carry one in the era of screens? Because nothing can replace a pen and a paper. Plus it is just classic I guess. Writing is becoming a forgotten art too, no? The idea is to write any random ideas, thoughts, grocery lists, a nice quote you heard, doodle of a tree – just about anything that can come to mind. Writing on a paper also helps slowing down the moment, you are fully into one thing and no notification is popping on your page to distract you. Several successful entrepreneurs will tell you to write and journal. The reason for that as per my understanding is to exercise the muscles in your brain and also give your brain a break by putting the thoughts out. Something that each one of us should try at least for 30 days.

On YouTube today, I watched videos on making your own pocket notebooks, book binding, book stitching etc. That reminded me, when I was a kid, we used to cut paper and cardboard, staple them together to make tiny notebooks. I had already been doing it for a long time until I lost if not all, most of my interests. Some of these notebooks had drawings, some had little notes. I may give it another try to refine the creation and recreate the memory. I did buy Field Notes notebooks though from a local stationary shop and not Amazon – because support local. But you know once you have something that you yearned for and then it doesn’t appeal that much anymore, something like that also keeps happening.. I jot down my thoughts and feelings on a notebook far more than I have ever done. I love it and enjoy it. Not writing down means it will not be remembered anymore, and I must remember and pass it on.
